Part of the series Intro to Quantum Noise (QGSS 2022); cited as one entry below.

Hand-written notes on measurement theory for the Introduction to Quantum Noise lectures at the Qiskit Global Summer School on Quantum Simulations. Each shot is treated as a coin toss whose bias is set by the quantum algorithm, which leads to the variance of the outcome and to sampling error over N repeated shots.

  • Measuring different observables of a qubit
  • Single-shot outcomes as Bernoulli random variables
  • Variance vs. the probability of obtaining 1, and projection noise
  • Counting outcome sequences over a few shots (2^3 sequences for 3 samples)

Summary and key points drafted by a language model from the slides, not yet reviewed by me. The slides are the source.
