Probabilistic Error Cancellation: Paper Notes

Tabulates the symbols used in PEC with sparse Pauli-Lindblad models: layers, model coefficients, Pauli fidelities, the fitting matrix built from symplectic products, the noise channel and its inverse, and the sampling overhead gamma. It then answers a common question, how many random circuit instances are needed for a given error bound and confidence, with a plot of shots against overhead.

  • Pauli-Lindblad generator, noise channel, and its quasi-probability inverse
  • Sampling overhead gamma per layer and across layers
  • Fitting model coefficients from Pauli fidelities via the symplectic-product matrix
  • Number of circuit instances N vs. error bound, confidence, and gamma

Summary and key points drafted by a language model from the slides, not yet reviewed by me. The slides are the source.
