Your First Superconducting Qubit: Intro to cQED, Part I
Part of the series Superconducting Qubits 101; cited as one entry below.
Starts with the big picture of how a qubit goes from idea to cryogenic hardware, using IBM and Google architectures as examples, then motivates the transmon as an anharmonic artificial atom. The second half lays classical groundwork: charge, flux, Kirchhoff's laws, and the Lagrangian and Hamiltonian of the LC oscillator. Community chip designs made with Qiskit Metal and a list of introductory cQED reviews round it out.
- Qubit as an anharmonic, isolated degree of freedom: atoms vs. artificial atoms
- cQED ingredients: superconductivity, low temperature, Josephson nonlinearity, microwave scales
- Circuit basics for the transmon: capacitance, inductance, kinetic inductance, Kirchhoff's laws
- LC oscillator via Lagrangian/Hamiltonian, phase space, and complex action-angle variables
Summary and key points drafted by a language model from the slides, not yet reviewed by me. The slides are the source.
