A Prelude to Practical Quantum Computing
Part of the series Career & Outreach; each deck is cited on its own.
Starts from Feynman's motivation and the progress from one or two working qubits around 2010 to 100+ qubit cloud machines, then surveys utility-scale experiments and the goal of quantum advantage. It explains the qubit from energy levels to a cQED chip in a dilution fridge, runs a simple 'hello world' qubit-flip circuit, and uses the gap between ideal and measured data to introduce noise, error correction and error mitigation (ZNE, PEC).
- History and status of superconducting quantum computing, with a map of utility-scale experiments by qubit count and depth
- Many-body dynamics example: local integrals of motion extracted from 124-qubit circuits
- What a qubit is physically: energy levels, cQED hardware, 15 mK operation
- A qubit-flipper circuit on real hardware, and how error mitigation differs from error correction
Summary and key points drafted by a language model from the slides, not yet reviewed by me. The slides are the source.
