Primer on Pauli Twirling, Part III
Part of the series Primer on Pauli Twirling (tutorial); cited as one entry below.
This part covers why twirling works. It starts with how a Pauli gate acts on a mixed state, links that action to the Walsh-Hadamard transform and the symplectic product, and moves to the superoperator picture with vectorization and the Pauli transfer matrix. Twirling then appears as an element-wise mask on the channel's PTM, with a closing pointer to designs.
- Pauli decomposition of qubit mixed states and conjugation by Pauli gates
- Walsh-Hadamard structure and the symplectic product in Z2 notation
- Vectorization identity, superoperators, and the Pauli transfer matrix
- Twirling as averaging masks applied element-wise to the PTM
Summary and key points drafted by a language model from the slides, not yet reviewed by me. The slides are the source.
