Overview of Quantum Hardware Design: Qiskit Metal, from Fab-It to Qubit

Zlatko K. Minev

Research talk · 2022 · NQI · 88 pages

An overview of quantum hardware design as a stack of abstractions: fabrication, layout, electromagnetic simulation, quantization, Hamiltonian and gate-level analysis. It walks through Qiskit Metal's component library, GDS and HFSS rendering, the landscape of quantization methods, and the lumped-oscillator model (LOM) workflow from layout to time-evolution simulation, then compares predicted and measured cross-Kerr and shows community adoption.

  • Design layers and a designer's wish list: full stack, speed, modularity
  • Qiskit Metal component library, parameterized layout, GDS export and HFSS rendering
  • Quantization methods (lumped, quasi-lumped, impedance, energy-participation) and the LOM cell-based workflow
  • Measured vs. predicted cross-Kerr, EPR validation, and devices and users from the community

Summary and key points drafted by a language model from the slides, not yet reviewed by me. The slides are the source.
