Overview of Quantum Hardware Design: Energy, Circuits, and Metal (Qiskit Metal)

Zlatko K. Minev

Research talk · 2022 · Chicago Quantum Exchange, NanoKorea · 55 pages

Asks how to design a quantum processor by analogy with classical abstraction layers, then shows how Qiskit Metal handles each layer: a component library with parametrized layout, GDS export, rendering to EM solvers such as Ansys HFSS, and a library of quantization methods (impedance, eigenmode/EPR, capacitive/LOM). It closes with measured vs. predicted cross-Kerr comparisons and examples of research groups using the tool.

  • Layers of quantum device design from layout to gate analysis
  • Qiskit Metal components, parametric tuning, GDS export, and HFSS rendering
  • Quantization methods library: impedance, eigenmode/EPR, capacitive LOM
  • EPR Hamiltonian parameters and LOM/EPR predictions compared with measurement

Summary and key points drafted by a language model from the slides, not yet reviewed by me. The slides are the source.
