To Design Quantum Hardware - Qiskit Metal and Energy Participation Ratio (EPR) for Superconducting Qubit Design

Zlatko K. Minev

Research talk · 2021 · 110 pages

Frames chip design around one question, where the energy is, and builds the EPR method from finite-element eigenmode simulation of the linearized circuit to the full nonlinear Hamiltonian. It covers EPR sum rules, dissipation budgets from lossy participation ratios, comparisons of theory and experiment, and how Qiskit Metal automates layout, simulation and analysis, with the lumped oscillator model as a complementary approach.

  • What must be designed: frequencies, couplings, loss budget, spurious modes
  • EPR derivation: eigenmodes, junction participation, zero-point fluctuations, Hamiltonian
  • Dissipation budget from capacitive, inductive, seam and radiative EPRs
  • Qiskit Metal workflow and the lumped-oscillator model (LOM) via quasi-static simulation

Summary and key points drafted by a language model from the slides, not yet reviewed by me. The slides are the source.
