Optimizing Josephson Parametric Amplifiers for Fast, High-Fidelity Qubit Readout

Research talk · 2011 · APS March Meeting (poster) · 1 pages

Describes a solver for the driven, damped, nonlinear Josephson oscillator, built with fourth-order Runge-Kutta and Gaussian noise, used to map gain against pump and signal amplitude. Noise-free runs agree with analytical theory, while runs with noise show gain suppression and an asymmetric SNR degradation around maximum gain. Planned work covers bandwidth versus Q, stray parameters and multi-junction amplifiers.

  • JPA as a pumped nonlinear resonator for high-fidelity qubit readout
  • Runge-Kutta solver with thermal noise; C++ core run in parallel from LabVIEW
  • Gain curves, 1 dB compression, and band tuning with critical current
  • SNR degradation by the ideal factor of 2, and reaching the quantum limit when k_B T << ħω
